Hello,

the fly is from July 2 at the edge of Kyritz Lake in Bantikow, Brandenburg, Germany. It is a shady area with alder, poplar, and other trees. Length appr. 4 mm.

Is an ID possible?

looks alot like Palloptera umbellatarum
I only have experience with Palloptera umbellatarum.

need to eliminate Palloptera flava and maculifemur.
I do not have keys for Pallopteridae. Maybe someone here has keys?

German options:
Palloptera flava [need keys]
Palloptera maculifemur [need keys]
Palloptera marginata [not this one]
Palloptera umbellatarum [matches well]
Palloptera ustulata [not this one]

I don't think it's Toxoneura modesta.
I see infuscation on the anal vein.

Good evening Sir Paul, Thank You for the link but Sir Ozerov's work is local not Palaearctic. In order for the keys to be useful in this thread (German Palloptera), flava and maculifemur need to be separated. To my knowledge, flava and maculifemur are valid. I cannot find photos, descriptions or keys of these two species. For all I know, flava could look exactly like umbellatarum with a minor difference.

I like the work. Naturally, Russian work is usually beautiful. I will enjoy reading this material. Meantime, I am still hunting for flava (which must have a blonde color somewhere) and maculifemur (which must have spots or hairs on the femur.)

Do you know where to look for a description or keys of these two species?

PS. I forget alot of Russian language. I'll have to brush up on my Russian language skills. I just love listening to Yuliya Savichyeva. FANtastic music.

Palloptera flava is yellow species without any spots on wings.
Palloptera maculifemur has the whole fore margin of wing darkened. It is known from holotypus only, as I know.
Palloptera umbellatarum is easily recognizable species due to spot on lateral branch of anal vein of wing. No other European species has this spot.

I understand Czerny described maculifemur in 1934 from Germany. Now it is 2017. Noone has found it? extinct, variation, mistaken identity or missing comes to mind.
