Hoping someone here maybe able to answer this. I took a pic of this flying aphid yesterday walking across my car roof. I'ts about 4mm long.
Much to my suprise the sugar drop exhaust pipes appear to originate at the top of the abdomen (near the thorax) rather than just straight out of the abdomen about 2/3rds down from the thorax. Does anyone know if this is just an illusion?
Any specific ID appreciated to.

Hello,
I'm not a specialist, but the cornicles are not the organ to excret honeydew. Aphids use the rectum for that. The cornicles are used to excret alarm pheromones and other defense means.

The siphuncili are placed just beyond the middle of the abdomen. That is found in at least some species of Aphididae - Mascrosiphini.
