Maybe Merodon equestris?

I don't know how many species of Merodon exist in Europe but here in England I'd say M. equestris :)

In southern europe there are a lot of Merodon species (over 50 in Europe i thought) but the most of them are not as hairy as Merodon equestris. The bulky appearance and the all black legs make me think this is M. equestris but there are more experienced syrphid experts on this forum...
