Hi,
Is it possible to tell the genus and species of this male?
Photo taken on 3 May 2015 in Kokkola Finland.

Thanks.

Regards Pentti.

I think it is a Pollenia, despite the closed r5 cell.

If it is a holarctic species you will find it here: http://cjai.biolo...mw_197.htm

Thanks John!

Pollenia rudis,
Pollenia labialis,
Pollenia pediculata?

Pentti.

Hi,
could it be a male of H. rudis?

Hello Pentti,

interesting specimen. It isn't rudis (av hairs on t3 absent) but with the yellow basicosta and dark palpi it could be in the rudis group. Check the underside of the wing for pale hairs on the node at humeral crossvein and vein sc: https://diptera.i...o_id=10761 which leads to P. pediculata.

I will wait for your reply.

Best wishes,
John

Hi Pentii, :)

I see the post was made in 2015. well, the basicosta is yellow so it is most likely pediculata with a petiole (named for this feature but rarely has it). I have to go soon, so i will check other possibilities later today or tomorrow...

Best wishes,
John
