7mm. Southern England, October 2012. Keyed ok as far as 4 rows as presutural acrostichals, then with less confidence to pertusa (dead end as genitalia wrong and hairs on hind femora not dense or short enough). Is it even in this genus (no posterodorsal around basal third of hind tibia).

Ah thank you Stephane, looking at the genitalia in lateral view the evenly concave lower edge of the cercal plates is a good fit and doesn't seem shared by many other Helina. Oh to have more confidence when naming these.

also need to check that pra is shorter than 2nd ntpl seta and 2:2 stpl setae

Thanks for the feedback Elisabeth. I can confirm pntpl > pra and stpl 2 +2. Unfortunately I don't think I can produce worthwhile images of these features with my current lighting and camera set-up (holding compact to eyepiece, trying not to shake too much).

Thank you Elisabeth, that is good. I have been very pleased to find other people interested in Muscids on this forum. I have only previously collected these incidentally while doing other things. Help here has been invaluable in making progress and I will be paying them more attention in the future (Phaonia subventa in sunny weather today).
