I found this small fly next to a Laurel Hedge. There are some scale insects on the shrubbery and the ground is covered in leaves from the Laurel as well as a cherry tree, next to it. The cherry tree is dying from various causes, including insect damage (bark beetles, carpenter ants, etc.). There is also grassy lawn nearby.
The fly was approximately 6mm long. Metallic green with reddish eyes. No apparent markings on the wings.
I live in the Seattle Area of Washington State, U.S.A.

If an identification can be made to species, that would be really cool!
Thanks,
Cheryl M.
