Any idea which pair are "Having a nice time" ©. Found at Burn of Valayre yesterday.

This couple is remarkable in that the male and the female antennae belong to different "species" - Sympycnus pulicarius (Fallén, 1823) [=Sympycnus annulipes (Meigen, 1824)] and Sympycnus desoutteri Parent, 1925.

Thanks for that Igor..how does that work out then..???
Offspring be called S.puloutteri ;)

Should have gone to SPECSAVERS comes to mind.

Roger, Igor,

I think suggesting that this is a copulation between two species on a picture that does not really shows the species' diagnostic features is confusing, at least. It would be good to add which characters you used to distinguish both. As far as I am concerned, both species (S. pulicarius and S. desoutteri) are most likely conspecific (I am currently studying the type series).
