It's a very widely spread genus actually - according to
Jim O'Hara's list of world tachinid genera it is found in all of the geographic zones. I have one from French Guiana so they probably do exist right on the Equator, but they are never really common and I think you just have to be lucky to stumble upon a colony. Where they occur they can be locally common. :)
