Hello,

I found this fly on the 1st of May 2010 on a heathland in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It was about 13mm long. Could it be a Phasia sp.?

With kind regards, Kathrin

Funny fly! Not Phasia, wing venation doesn't match.

Yes, let's get the family straight first

And then to species level:

Hypoderma diana

Host: Roe deer and red deer
(Capreolus and Cervus)

Thanks a lot for your answers :). There are just too many families of Diptera - sometimes you just don't know where to look.

With kind regards,
Kathrin
