Hi,

IntKey (yeah I still use it. It's the only thing I've got) speaks about hind tibiae with strong bristles in the basal 4/5. What is the basal 4/5?
Up until now I always skip this, but that's redicilous. So, can anyone clearify thiss with an image please?

Thank you.

Andr

Hi Andre.
hind tibiae with strong bristles in the basal 4/5 = hind tibiae with strong bristles - excluding preapical bristles. For example, in Sciomyzidae all flies have preapical setas (=bristles) on t3, but only subfamily Phaeomyiinae has strong bristles on median part of t3 = on basal 4/5 of t3.

So basically: strong bristles except in the apical 1/5, which is the part where the tarsus is attached.
