Hi

Found this remarkably handsome fly in a vineyard in Southern Germany, ca 600 mtrs above NN, on June 16th.

What is it?

Thx

Chris

Maybe Tephritidae!? :)

Acidia cognata (Tephritidae). There are much more handsome representatives in this family, but in others too :D!

Hi,
sorry for the very late answer. After further research I would now tend to say: it's Rhagoletis alternata. The wing pattern does not seem to fit for Acidia cognata.
Please correct me if I should be wrong.
Thanks
Chris

You are right, I was too fast 10 years ago :S At that time, I relied on the identification of my fly in https://diptera.i...d_id=14356. It is the same species as yours, and meanwhile I found out that it is Rhagoletis alternata indeed. But I forgot that I transmitted the wrong identification to you...
So I support Rhagoletis alternata now! But please try to get bigger pictures that show more details, e.g. like this one: https://diptera.i...pid=287945

No problem, Sundew.
Not only identification resources, also cameras have improved over the last 10 years...! ;-)
