Hi,
This fly I saw on the outskirts of Berlin one year ago. Can it be named?
Many thanks, Sundew

Many thanks, Jaakko! Seems to be a booming species at the moment, we had several enquiries in May... It is new for me, so I am happy!

I did wonder whether it was Pales but the colour wasn't very blue ... the pale tibiae and long facial ridge bristles should have been enough though I guess :) Pales is pretty common over here.

Prosopea nigricans shares some features with Pales and is something to look out for. I´ve only got one...

http://tachinidae...brcno=9201 says concerning P. nigricans: "In Southern Europe locally frequent, in Central Europe very rare and probably restricted to very warm, rocky locations." That does not really fit for Berlin, except we consider the bordering tower blocks of the Gropiusstadt quarter a "warm, rocky location" :D.
