UK, Suffolk. 5th May 2011
Open woodland on sandy soil Size 7 mm approx
I think this is Carcelia tibialis, with 1 ad and 1 ventral bristle on middle tibia.

No, not Carcelia (eye too small) ... not sure what it is though ;)

Looks somehow strange. Can it be Nemorilla? I canīt remember if they have such tibiae and I donīt have any specimens at hand. Are the eyes really hairy? If not, could be Thecocarcelia.

Looks very shiny for both those options - I am confused so I'd prefer to see a specimen to be sure ;)

Thanks for looking at these, Jaakko and Chris. The eyes are definitely hairy. I think my less than perfect photography is making it look different to reality. I still like Carcelia, but I will put it in the ever filling box of specimens to send to Chris:)

OK, that's the best idea - thanks - I'll let you know what it is when it gets here :)

Chris has now seen this specimen and confirms the id:)

It is a really odd little specimen too - the smallest Carcelia I have ever seen :)
