This brave fly kept jumping on my lens. Photo taken on 28 June 2010 on the edge of a wood, on hot and sunny day in the Czech Republic.

Thank you.

To Ruud van der Weele:

Could you please specify which species it can be ?

Thank you

No, this question has to be answered by the asilid-fanatics.

Genus Choerades, I'd say. I have failed to often in naming species in that genus, so I will not try again. ;)

Choerades cf gilva, very probable. Everything points in that direction but i can not entirely exclude C. ignea.

Many thanks to you all.

As a layman I thought that the red abdomen would be a help. I am attaching another photo of the beast.

The scutellar setae seem black that would indicate C. gilva
