Hello all,

I photographed some Dioctria during a walk but have troubles keying them out.
The pics were taken in 30-06-2010 in Hasselt - Belgium.

Is this one Dioctria cothurnata?

And this one Dioctria atricapilla?

Correct on two counts.

The second image seems a very dark specimen of Dioctria hyalipennis to me.

Wings are not darkened and overall looks are too slim, legs too thin and not black enough. Abdomen tergites with slight coloured hind-edges. Colour of eyes not right(d. atricapilla blue for males green for females) antennae too thin.

Maybe someone else has an opininion?

Thanks Paul and Reinoud. :)

I'd rather not have a Dioctria spec. so I'd be glad if someone would clear this out?

Do you have another view of the second specimen? That might help, especially in lateral view. (Please always try to take pictures from Asilidae in lateral view. This is in most cases the best view to identify them).
