Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cepae

ok, in this case it probably means it grows on onion, but does it differ in any way from
just Fusarium oxysporum or 'Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. anything else '

What exactly f.sp. means ?

From http://www.apsnet...dGlossary/

f. sp. (abbr. for forma specialis)
