I think this must be Didea fasciata, but can anyone confirm this? Some online sources suggest it's quite rare in the UK and typical of ancient woodland, but it was happily feeding on ivy flowers in my garden... in a rural not an urban setting.

Photographed on 5th September 2009 in Wiltshire, southwest UK.

Seems to fit D.fasciata, yellow-clubbed halteres, no black edge to scutellum. Nice find.

Thanks again Tim. These ivy flowers were buzzing with all sorts last September, including a nice conopid, which I now know is very probably Leopoldius signatus. Nick
