Nick Upton sent me this photo today and I am having some problems identifying the fly. The facial bristles are very distinctive but the fly doesn't look like Pales, so I was wondering if it might be a Campylocheta?

The fly was seen in Wiltshire (southern England) on 26th June 2009 and was apparently about 7-9mm long.

Can't be, the ocellar is proclinate (have a very close look !).

Looks like a Wagneriini, such as Ramonda spathulata.

SO wrong tree, right forest.

Wow, that's a very close look ... they're minute :o Ramonda would be a good match and they are fairly common here - would have been nice to see the wings but the photographer didn't have any other shots. Thx :)
