This small (well not to small, I don't know, about 5-7 mm?) fly I found on a dead young Barnswallow. Pictures are bad, because it was running fast. Can it be identified as Stenepteryx hirundinis?
21-05-2009, La Fontouret, Indre, France.
Thanks for any information.

Not
hirundinis, which has narrow, strap-like wings. This is more likely to be
Ornithomya biloba.

Did you keep it?

Thank you very much Tony for the identification. I guess it stays an unsure ID.
And to Paul: No, I'm sorry. It flew away. Are you interested? Because we have a lot of Barnswallows here, so maybe I see one again this year.

Hallo Paul,
I could try to find puparia in the old nests. Since we are converting an old barn into a house I have to remove some of the nests anyhow. I read that they can be found in winter. But I have no idea how they look like? And if you are interested in the puparia?

Today I found (barn La Fontouret) two other Hippoboscidae, probable also Ornithomya biloba. Length ca. 8 mm (with wings). Pictures are bad. Is there anything to say about this fly. Found on weak Barnswallow-young.
One I kept. Is there a simply way to preserve it?
