If the fly has a subscutellum (a small bulge under the scutellum between it and the part where the abdomen joins the thorax) then it is a tachinid :)

I don't think it is necessarily an import - there are probably plenty of NZ tachinids that look like that :) Unfortunately it is way outside the regions I can cover :(
