Hello,

My first Tabanid for this year, its general impression was big and dark, the wings covered the bright parts, I guess.
I know males are difficult, but is it safe to call it Hybomitra lurida, regarding his early appearance
(8 May, Teverener Heide, Germany) ?

Hi Ben

Still needed to answer you, had to check my collection.
It could have been H. bimaculata as well, but,
you are quite right,
H. lurida male it is.

Congratulations.
(a rare species, though obviously a population at Tevener heide)

Thank you very much Theo,

It indeed seems to be a very local business with Hybomitra sp.
I never saw one in Holland but just across the border I see some every year.
