Certainly a tachinid fly and they're very nice photos but if only if could see the apical scutellars better... :@ Nevermind - I'll take an educated guess (based on the UK key) at
Bactromyia aurulenta. Did you have any pupae of lycaenid butterflies? My next best alternative would be
Lydella sp. :)
