Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tachinidae?

First post so apologies for any errors.

The attached was photographed today (August 22nd) in Powys, mid-Wales. It was resting on a nettle leaf. i would estimate it's length at approx. 5 to 8mm. Having looked through gallery pictures I am guessing at Bactromyia aurulenta, I wait to be corrected.

Looks like Dexiosoma caninum :) Really there are very few tachinids that you could identify by browsing through the gallery (it is mainly useful for secondary confirmation). You need to have keyed a few specimens before you will know what to look for when comparing photos ;)

Dexiosoma it is (only one species)

The wing venation is typical (though difficult to see in this pic).
