Resently I cut the abdomen of this Muscidae (I thougt there was a larve inside)
The only thing I saw, was moisture and a long intestine....
But I also saw hairs in the inside of the abdomen ???
Why has a fly, hairs there....., what has it for reason.
Has someone a answere ??

Did you come to any conclusions about this? Two possible benefits come to mind:
1: Damping turbulence of internal fluid due to rapid changes of direction in flight.
2: Proprioceptive sensing of fluid movements.
Is it known whether the small hairs on the
outside of the fly have a sensory function? Or any function?

Or what about:
3: Auditory perception of vibrations transmitted through internal fluid. Do flies have 'ears' anywhere else?
