I see there have been added former(?) genus names in parenthesis after the genus name on Empididae in the gallery. Why? Is it really necessary?

Kritempis is the subgenus where livida belongs. The systematics of the genera Empis and Rhamphomyia sensu lato are still muddled. It is likely that some groups (subgenera) now placed in these separate genera are more closely related to each other than to the subgenera in their respective genera. In that case it would be logical to bring these subgenera from Empis and Rhamphomyia together in a single group.
Hence it can give a better impression of the actual classification to include the subgenus name in the Gallery.

OK, thanks Paul. I misinterpreted the enclosed names. Does the a name enclosed by parenthesis always mean a subgenus?

In they way the are represented it always should mean subgenus. Occasionally someone may indicate an older classification but then a = should be added.
