Sphaerophoria female - not sure that you will be able to get a species on this.

I was afraid so. It was much smaller than the S. scripta's I have encountered. Thanks for answering!

This is almost certainly not scripta. Could be fatarum female. But... well, you know the answer: risky or impossible with females.

The fatarum is a good possibility, but as you say, they are not easy. Thank you Andre.

I am wondering if I am seeing the same images as everyone above :o. To me, they look like a male specimen as the eyes appear to be touching on top of the head and the tip of the abdomen looks "male". Unfortunately, I can't help with the species.

Steve is quite right, it's definitely a male!
Probably fatarum, but that's only a guess from a picture!
