Hi,
These tiny flies are running around on the leaves of our Magnolias. Their size is about 1 mm. They seem to belong to different species, as the lower one shows more yellow on legs and abdomen, but the family might be the same. Who knows such mini flies?
Thanks in advance, Sundew

Top one: Desmometopa, Milichiidae.
Bottom one: Chloropidae.

Hello Sundew & Paul,

The species of Desmometopa can actually be identified as D. microps, a male. Only this species has the postgenae wide and shiny to the vertex (that is the part of the head behind the eyes in the direction of the thorax).
Could I use your photo's in a publication I am writing together with Irina Brake?

Kind regards,

Ectemnius
