Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Calliphoridae?

When flying, it seemed the usual Calliphora vomitaria, but when I looked closer, the colour didn't seem bright enough and there was a marked chequer pattern on the abdomen. I do think it is a Calliphoridae though.

No doubt Calliphora.
I'm not sure if C. vomitoria is your 'usual' Calliphora.
C. erythrocephala is probably much more common.
An expert should be able to tell the difference from your pictures

Vomitoria has black jowls with red hairs on it, whereas erythrocephala
(by the way: more proper name vicina ?) has reddish jowls with black hairs.
So to me it is erythrocephala, in Central Europe by far the most common species of Calliphora.
