It is a female
Merodon, belonging to the
avidus-nigritarsis lineage. In the Mediterranean area there are several complexes of cryptic and sibling species, and species identification based on morphological characters is hardly possible (see
https://www.resea...ew_species,
https://brill.com...anguage=en). Identification of females is extremely difficult. So your nice fly will remain "
Merodon spec."
