Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tabanidae, Mexico, Oaxaca

This type of Tabanid was very common in this area. I found this one in a swimming pool. Using the manual of central american Diptera I key this to the genus Tabanus. Could that be correct? Is it possible to identify it to species level?

To be honest, I don’t think so. Pleae show us a closeup of the basicosta.

Thank you. If I take the other lead in the key with the basicosta, then I end up with Stenotabanus. See attached a picture of the base of the wing and a picture of the frons:

Yes, that is bare and yes, Stenotabanus was what I was thinking.
