Hi all!

Completely dark brown eyes make it a sure T. sudeticus, I think. Right?

Size about 20 mm

16.7.2022, Germany, Upper Bavaria, near the summit of Mt. Hochfelln, ~1660m asl, coordinates 47.76215, 12.55936

There are more relevant features but yes, this is the male of T. sudeticus

Yes , but for males there is this important additional feature:
upper facets strongly enlarged in sudeticus, not or hardly so in bovinus.

Bovinus has become a rarity, these days, in western Europe.

In other words: wait for 4-6 wweks and by the English version of the book !!

Sure I will buy it, no question. I hope, most of the Bavarian Tabanidae and Stratiomyidae will be in it, too, although it's not northwest Europe.

it is complete for Bayern below 800 m., but especially for Tabanidae it will be very difficult to find even ine horsefly not mentioned.
