Thank you for your thoughts Val. T. crepidis and T. conyzifoliae are not on the British list. Does not make either of them impossible but unlikely. According to White's key I think there is too much marking on the anal lobe, reaching vein a2, for it to be T. leontodontis? Here is a close up picture of the wing. Perhaps not enough marking for T. ruralis either, and on checking there really are no dark hairs on the tergites. So will have to stick at Tephritis sp. I think.
