On September 26 I observed and photographed this colorful fly on Rhodos, Greece!
Would appreciate assistance with the identification.
Thanks in advance,

Yes, difficult to give species level ID for Villa spp. This seems to be a Mediterranean species.

Villa fasciculata Becker

This male indeed keys out to be fasciculata in keys that do not have all European species. Fasciculata is a Souther species whcih also fits.
But the description does not completely fit. Most notably, the argenteous tufts on the T3 and T4 are not mentioned. However these may only be present in fresh flies and may wear off quickly.

This undentified Villa from Crete is presumably the same species.
