Hi Bart, it's one of the Trichoceridae.

Mmmm .. I think Trichoceridae would have longer antennae, and fewer markings on the wings. This looks more like a
Tipula species.

Thanks for your help - yes, the antennae are too short etc. I was irritated by the seemingly slender habitus.
