While most other flies were basking atop leaves, this little, 6-7mm, fly was defiantly hiding beneath a cluster of field maple (
Acer campestre) leaves. It looks like the eyes are banded.
In a sunlit patch in a dark, canopied, alley of mature mixed trees.
