Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Bibio sp. - please ID => Bibio varipes female and Bibio cf.reticulatus male

I saw these two specimen of Bibio sp. on the light-tower near my house in south-west of Germany on 09th may in the night.
The size of the male was about 7 mm, the female about 10 mm.
May ID possible?

Hi Ulrich, I'm quite sure, that the female is B. varipes (the abdomen must be yellow ventrally). Unfortunately I cannot see the colour of the hair on top of the male's thorax - if it's black, it may be the male reticulatus. Bibio are tricky and it's easier if we see dorsal and lateral views.

Thank you, Eric! Looking at all my pictures of the male one I think the hairs on the top of the thorax actually are black.
