Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Another Psychoda species (dark splotches on wings)

I photographed another Psychoda. It reminds me of P. alternata, but it has large dark splotches on the wings.

Wire spacing is 16 per inch by 18 per inch.

Alternata is quite variable, or maybe it is just wear. This one looks quite fresh to me. I am quite sure it is alternata. Beautiful picture by the way!

Thanks. Looking through my other photos of alternata, I see those splotches. I just didn't notice them before. Usually I notice the spots along the margins of the wings.

Is this in the US too? Maybe there are more species?

Yes, Austin, Texas. My understanding is that P. alternata is originally from America but now is found nearly worldwide.
