Hello,
I photographed this fly in Bazzano (AQ), Italy, on February 2nd 2020. I think it is a Ephydridae, but is it possible to identify the genus or species from these photos?
Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

Looks like
Philygria, but not one I recognize - did you collect a specimen? It's not clear whether the wing markings are "real" or just staining.

Thank you Tony! I think the markings are real, but I don't have other shots to confirm that. If I manage to find another specimen I will definitely collect it.

Thanks, Emanuele. Unless I've made a silly mistake (that happens too often!), this looks like a very interesting specimen, so please do try to catch one in the new year!
