It was found in the garden, quite a long time ago, in spring I think. NW Poland.

I found such worm several times in my garden, and later I found an earwig (Forficula) parasitized by apparently the same species. It is not Gordius/Chordodes, but a member of Mermithidae (Nematoda). It should not be too difficult to find species name.

Yes, almost certainly Mermis nigrescens. Nematomorphs are aquatic.
