Haven't seen this brightly marked fly before especially with hairy eyes.
Taken yesterday south coast UK about 12mm body length.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Thanks Theo - I sometimes get the family correct but not very often :)

Sarcophagidae never have hairy eyes, easy rule of thumb.

Except Hoplacephala, Lamprometopia and Xiphidiella (Afrotropical, Oriental and Palaearctic (Egypt), but not (yet) in Europe.

In this case I agree with Polietes.

I guessed there would be pathological counterexamples, reason why I hastely added 'rule of thumb'. Thanks to Liekele, I now know it's a very thorough rule of thumb.
