Hi,
found on 01-August-2020 on a dirt road with surrounding trees near a lake, Germany, Rhineland Palatinate, "Altrheinsee Eich", near Mainz
Can it be further identified?
Many thanks and regards,
Stella

You have been misled by the grey apppearance ! Bend in vein M is very gentle and moreover Tachinidae with such a narrow vertex are rare. This is a Muscidae: Muscina. Note the red tip of scutellum.

Practice makes perfect ! Of course, the official feature of swollen postscutellum can never be seen on pictures, so we need to seek other resources.
Try the galleries as well.
