This is another image, which I though could show Carcelia. This one could be Carcelia, but I am unsure. Early April is also quite early for Carcelia that I ususally see (the most common Tachinid from May to July).

I've got a feeling of deja-vu with this photo - haven't we seen this before?

In theory you should not have. If I get a response I usually update my web site, and thereby the same photo should not come back twice, unless there is a reason to do so. Of course I post a lot of threads so mistakes might happen.
If this is Carcelia, this would explain a lot. I take a lot of Carcelia sp photos at the same location. That is why I have a large number of very similar photos. You can have a lot of de ja vu feelings if you look at my
Carcelia folder.

Tibiae are black, so can't be Carcelia.
My guess would be Huebneria affinis (the apical scutellars are erect)

Yes, this is identical to another fly in an earlier thread. Actually I am starting to get the jizz here, if one knows what to look for, this is not so difficult.
I even managed to find another Huebneria affinis image among my photos. This species seems to be quite wary, and rarely allows more than one shot.
