Hi,
any chance to specify this Bibio (I hope it is one) more exactly? Size approx. 7 mm.
DE, Hessen, Gießen, broadleaved forest, 200 m, 25.04.2020.
TIA Christian

Hi Christian, Now this one is very promising. Very black, but small (as confirmed by the symmetrical fork in wing venation) Long antenna (for a Bibio). And if you look closely, light hairs on tergites. Very unusual combination of characters, I am thinking now B. ferruginatus, need to check the key.

Any other pictures available ? It is essential to be sure that the hairs on abdomen are light. If so, it keys out to the blacklegged form (f. atripes) of varipes, but I am not convinced. It looks very black.

Hi Theo,
thanks a lot for your work! Unfortunately I haven't got pictures from a different angle, but I attach a max scale crop from the abdomen, maybe this will help a bit.
Best
