Photo taken on 2016-may-08 in southern Italy. mixed wood and pasture, 400m asl. Body lenght 7 mm.

indeed 7 mm is the total lenght, with wings. Body lenght should be slightly less than 5 mm.

Because of the dark striped thorax, I thought of the possibilty it could be Hydrophoria linogrisea, which also can have a darkened fore femur in female.
But looking at the amount of frontal setae .....it will stay H. vagans
