Hello,

[google translation because my english is not very good !]

I would like to identify this hoverfly.

Thierry roy : France : Orly-sur-Morin : 77750 : 31/07/2019
Altitude : 70 m - Taille : 7 à 10 mm non mesuré
Réf. : 236885

I think this is the group Platycheirus clypeatus with these elements:

- it's a male
- shins and tarsi of legs 1 clearly dilated
- distinctly yellow / orange spots
- head not particularly prominent
- all black antennas
- There are not 5 to 6 distinct blackheads on the femur 1 (rather, black and fine eyelashes).
- only 3 pairs of yellow-orange spots on the abdomen.
- Tergites 2 and 3 are not longer than wide.

Then, three species seem possible and it is not easy. According to the diagram p.223 of the Verlinden, I tend rather for the true Platycheirus clypeatus, one can probably discard P. ocultus because the base of the femur 1 is not blackened all around.

Thank you for your help !
Thierry
