Could anyone please help with identification of this fly?
It was basking in the sunshine en masse on pine trees.
Picture made on Oct. 20, 2005, Naro-Fominsk, Moscow region, Russia

Yes I agree. Maybe some head details would help?

I must confess that I lack experience in Diptera identification, but I take quite a lot of their pictures though and really want to learn more
