Most individuals that day had clean eyes but some had spotted eyes. Did not seem to be only one species. This varies within the species?

You should ask Menno Reemer (author of the key; write a private message). He writes concerning the species: "eyes (of living animals) with dark dots and horizontal line". I have seen Oplodontha just once, and it had very dotted eyes. So I cannot estimate the variability, sorry.
