In Istria you can see or better, you can feel it
size: app. 5mm
Aedes albopictus

Female full of blood

Interesting midge. I don't think I've seen that one before. Is it present in Scandinavia also?

Yes, this looks exactly like A. albopictus that I know from Japan. There this mosquito is the most common pest around paddyfields. It is a nuisance cause it attacks aggressively day and night.

To my knowledge it is a recent introduction to Europe. And this species is susceptible to heavy frost, so it does not occur in most parts of Central and Northern Europe.

Photos from my garden in Istria, Jun/July 2007.
Asian tiger mosquito was native to Southeast Asia. Now they have been found in Europe ? Italy, Spain, and also in Slovenia and Croatia
