Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tabanidae from French Guiana (neotropical) Cryptotylus unicolor ??

Hi

I would appreciate very much genus ID of this specimen. Some came to normal light at my house in Kourou, French Guiana, at the beginning of the dry season.
Length of body is 16 mm.

For that, we would much more info:

lateral shot, frontal shot of the head and a good pic of the proboscis, antenna, occiput and wing base.

The antenna is broken. The shape of the missing flagellum is useful for identification. See discussion here of some of the nocturnal neotropical Tabanidae: https://diptera.i...ost_284919.

I am sorry. I don’t recognize the genus and My experience in the Neotrpics is too limited to identify a damaged specimen. The lack of antennae is killing...

Ouuups......sorry, I didn't notice for the antennae. Very strange and very weak also.

But I think that I have got them, photos this night or tomorrow.........

I think it may be the genus Cryptotylus and may be the species C unicolor.

I am preparing the photos of antennae.

Well, I agree with this antenna the genus is Cryptotylus.
