Hello,

this Syrphidae is from Southern Germany (Schwäbische Alp) at the end of July.
Is it Volucella bombylans?

yes, it's a male Volucella bombylans f. plumata.

uhh... And I was wondering a bit about the rather late date and the form of the thorax... :S
I have never seen that species in real life...
